Prof. Kerry Sieh is a Research Associate in the Geology Department at Western Washington University. A leading expert in earthquake geology (neotectonics and paleoseismology), tsunami geology, extraterrestrial impact geology, and physical volcanology, he earned his A.B. with highest honors in Geology from the University of California, Riverside (1972) and his Ph.D. from Stanford University (1977). His distinguished career includes long-term faculty roles at the California Institute of Technology (culminating as Robert P. Sharp Professor of Geology), founding and directing the Earth Observatory of Singapore at Nanyang Technological University (where he is now Founding Director Emeritus and Professor Emeritus), and current positions as Distinguished Chair Professor for Research at National Taiwan University and Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Earth Sciences, Academia Sinica. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a fellow of the American Geophysical Union, Geological Society of America, and AAAS, and has received major honors including the Harry Fielding Reid Medal from the Seismological Society of America.
